Yesterday I posted a TikTok to prepare now for a possible TC Alfred crossing before BoM had made any confirmation but track maps and modelling were showing a rather suspect bee line to SEQ. Cyclones do not commonly impact SEQ but they have in the past.
BoM has now issued its first Cyclone Advice Warning for South East Queensland.

Then…
Here’s how you can prepare:
Get your Emergency Kit ready.
Prepare your home by clearing gutters, trimming branches and removing any loose items around your house. If you’re connected to gas, turn the gas off at the bottle before sheltering in place.
Have enough shelf stable food for your household for up to a week
Fill up water bottles and containers then leave in your fridge and freezer, but also ensure you have enough water for you and your household. Additionally, just ahead of landfall fill up sinks and bathtub with water.
Get cash out and keep important documents close by
Make sure your pets have what they need
Restock medications
Check on neighbours, friends and loved ones
If you have children in school, you can either liaise directly with the school on closures or check: https://closures.qld.edu.au/
Severe weather and cyclones can be quite terrifying for some people, here are some ways to mentally prepare
As always, do not drive through flood water. The biggest hazard in this system will be heavy rainfall, flooding and storm tides.
